Weddinginvitation with a floating wax seal
Wedding invitations are one of the most romantic things you will ever send out in your life, so you might as well make it special. In my little studio I have many customers, who are looking for this little something that will make their wedding invitation feel unique and special. And what could be prettier than to have your very own and unique wax seal created for you. A wax seal with your initials beautifully calligraphed, or your wedding logo or emblem. Or like in this case an illustrated olive twig for the Mallorca Wedding. Honestly, your guests will love opening an invitation closed with a wax seal.
In some cases you will not want to really use the wax seal to close the paper or envelope tightly. In this case we had this invite printed on a large sheet of paper and folded and wanted to close it with a silk ribbon and wax seal. But we didn’t`t want guests ripping the pretty paper on opening the invite. So a free floating wax seal was perfect in order to simply slide off the ribbon.
What you will need to create a floating wax seal
- your invitation or envelope
- a small piece of parchment paper
- wax
- waxseal
- silk ribbon (this is 1,5 cm wide)
- candle + spoon or a wax pistol
Floating wax seal – how to create it
Tie the silk ribbon around the folded paper, inserting the parchment paper in between paper and the ribbon. Hold tight with one hand while you heat up the wax or use the wax pistol with the other hand. Put the molten wax right in the middle of the ribbon to later hold is securely. Press the seal into the still soft wax, paying attention to not get it upside down. (ooooops, I always forget that one) Once the wax is cooled down and hard you can pick up the seal and place it on an ice pack. A cool wax seal will make sealing many items so much easier…
